I Don't Mind Being Alone ~ Merrit Malloy

I don't mind
Being alone
I just hate
Being left
The being over
Isn't as bad as
The continuous end

I don't mind
Being alone
I am afraid that
You leaving me alone
Will make me
Hate you

What scares me most
Is the fear that
I'll always be scared

    Hi Julie,

Merrit Malloy is my favorite contemporary American poet. She published a number of books in the 1970s and 1980s, but I do not believe that any of them are still in print.

In December of 1984, I was in Madison, Wisconsin during Christmas break. We went to a bookstore there. Once in a while, I will buy a book simply based on its title - I will, literally judge a book on its title! That was the case with my first book of Merrit Malloy's poetry, entitled, My Song for Him Who Never Sang for Me.

I have been hooked on her writing ever since. Other poetry books of hers include, Things I Meant to Say to You When We Were Old, Beware of Older Men, The Poeple Who Didn't Say Goodbye, and We Hardly See Each Other Anymore.

I like what she says, too!

Are you staying in Maryland for your whole vacation this time around?

    Bisous,
    Danielle
