The Investigatory Process
Despite thinking that my son's crisis had been blown out of proportion, I still tried to find out more so that I could take logical, informed, action.
I wrote,
So I tried again,
I wrote,
No answer. The boy always wanted to use instant messaging to communicate, and I wanted to use email so that I would process things and think about what he was telling me.I will be home tonight. I got L to take the study hall over for me. I will get on AIM as soon as I get there. In the meantime, could you please email me?What kind of breakdown have you had? What happened to cause it? What took place? What have your Dad and M said?Who else is involved? What is the "bad shit" that is going on there?Depending on what has happened, and assuming you are not exaggerating or over-reacting, I think it is perfectly reasonable for you to come out to CA and take care of your problem. I have already put you on my insurance, and it covers rehab centers. I know of a good one, not too far from here. I would have you enroll in a few hours of class, even online and even if you don't ever go, at the local community college, since my insurance will only cover you if you are a student. There are good therapists, good detox facilities and good after-care programs in this area.I think it would be best for you to undertake this treatment here in CA and not in MN, as well.Ultimately, you are an adult, and others cannot decide for you. However, D may have some good advice on how to work through this, depending on what happened, without you having to leave France. I have spoken to her and she is planning to call you tomorrow morning. She has a meeting tonight.PLEASE email me back and tell me what happened and what's been going on so that I can think about solutions with morre complete information.I love you.Love,Mom
So I tried again,
No answer. So I sent this:Please, please, please, tell me the story. What happened? What did your Dad say?WHAT HAPPENED????????????????Love,Mom
No answer. So I tried again sending this information from Camp Recovery's website:If you decide to come home after all, and, depending on what happened, it still might be the better option, this is where I would arrange for you to go:Love,Ta maman

Its peaceful 25-acre Santa Cruz Mountains environment provides a healing, supportive environment with the highest level of confidentiality.Individualized treatment incorporates medical and mental health services, 12-Step philosophy and principles, the Gorski/CENAPS relapse prevention methodology and a full range of traditional, experiential, and integrative therapies. Through education, problem solving, individual and group counseling, art and recreational activities, the individual learns how to analyze his or her own personal chemical dependency and life history, and gain the recovery skills needed to break this vicious cycle. The Camp is committed to helping build a strong foundation for recovery and relapse prevention that continues for the rest of the individual’s alcohol and drug-free life. The Camp Experience Within an Intimate Setting
Nestled on 25 tranquil acres in the majestic redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains, The Camp Recovery Center features walking trails, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, and a large sun-lit swimming pool. This serene environment, coupled with a highly structured and nationally accredited program, provides the creative backdrop for a new beginning for adults and adolescents struggling with addiction. It takes experience to treat addiction. Since 1984, The Camp Recovery Center has helped thousands of addicted men, women, and young adults break the grip of cocaine, methamphetamine, alcohol and prescription pills at our residential treatment center. That’s over two decades of experience in substance abuse rehabilitation.Staffed by an experienced and expert group of drug rehabilitation professionals (including a physician certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) as an addictionologist), nurses, experienced addiction counselors and family therapists are supported by a dedicated team of intake, administrative, kitchen, and grounds personnel. The Camp is a subsidiary of the CRC Health Group, one of the nation's largest providers of drug and alcohol treatment services in terms of the number of patients treated. CRC has enjoyed an industry wide reputation for treatment excellence over the past 20 years. The company is based in Cupertino, California and operates residential facilities, and outpatient and opiate treatment clinics throughout the U.S.Healing and Empowering the Individual
Overcoming chemical dependency can seem overwhelming. Full recovery requires the treatment of all addictions – whether it is drugs, alcohol, sexual or eating disorders. For adults, The Camp provides a continuum of care in treating the whole person including detox, residential, outpatient, day, family, and aftercare programs. Recovery requires an honest look into other areas of a person’s life including family relationships and spirituality. From the first day of admission, residents begin to acquire the tools and life skills necessary to maintain abstinence.“One Size Does Not Fit All” - Every person entering the program is treated as a unique individual with separate needs and problems. The Camp’s substance abuse treatment program, considered one of the premiere leaders in the field of drug rehab and mental health counseling, combines the 12- step recovery program with individual, group and experiential therapies to help residents understand their disease, accept it, and ultimately take responsibility for the process of recovery. In an atmosphere of support, understanding, respect and confidentiality, The Camp has been bringing health, recovery and reconnection to life to residents for many years.Adult and Adolescent Based Family Programs
Involvement in The Camp's Family Program is crucial for residents and their families’ recovery. The program is based on the premise that when the patient returns to the family environment, the dynamics of the family will change. The Camp believes that the patient’s relationships provide the context in which meaningful change occurs. Chemical dependency is a family illness and all members of the addicted person’s family are affected. Family therapy at The Camp is not easy and many times uncomfortable. Understanding the disease concept is an integral part of the family’s education. Every family member faces their own issues as they relate to the patient’s dysfunction and process. Learning how to distinguish between codependency and the appropriate display of love and support is also an important issue for the family in recovery. Each weekend there are educational and process oriented family groups at The Camp led by a family therapist. After the group meetings, families can arrange single family counseling sessions. Families are also invited to stay for the balance of each day for informal visiting and to participate in some of the seasonal activities that The Camp can offer, such as swimming, basketball, tennis and volleyball.Success in recovery is an on-going process. This means that the patient is never “cured” but has begun to build a foundation for recovery during the residential stay. The Camp excels in developing a unique aftercare plan for each patient - whether it is the outpatient programs or online treatment with eGetgoing. Often a structured day or evening outpatient program is recommended by the treatment team upon completion of residential care at The Camp. Referral to a sober living environment may also be advised. At the very least a specific plan for participating in alumni aftercare groups and 12-Step meetings in the community is essential.Long term recovery requires and generates a strong support system. The Alumni Association supports graduates of The Camp through retreats and recreational activities that occur throughout the year. The relationships that are formed through abstinence based activities are counted on as some of the greatest blessings that occur in recovery. There is wisdom in know you can’t face addiction alone. Most people try in vain to stop drinking or using drugs on their own. To ignore or deny the need for help is to prolong the pain and suffering that chemical dependency brings. Through treatment, one can experience the powerful strength of support and learn the coping skills and strategies to stay clean and sober for a lifetime.Assessments and Admissions
The Camp Recovery Centers is committed to working with the patient to find the best drug and alcohol treatment options available. The Camp believes that the individual deserves and needs a drug and alcohol treatment plan designed to compliment his or her life and best suit his or her needs. Please click here to fill out the confidential online assessment and one of The Camp’s experienced counselors will contact you promptly.Using the ASAM criteria, a nationally recognized treatment tool, The Camp can provide an outline of treatment options that will help map a road to recovery. Each assessment determines the criteria for admission and the program best suited to the patient. For those individuals that are faced with the barrier of incarceration, lack of transportation resources or are hospitalized, a mobile unit can be available for the patient’s assessment. The Camp wants to make this opportunity for treatment an easy path to take.Drug Rehabilitation Admission Process
Professional and caring drug and alcohol admissions counselors will guide the patient through the process of intake and help ease the often difficult process of finding treatment that best suits an individual's specific needs. The counselors are also available to help you with the financial arrangements and insurance benefits and orient you to the facility and staff. Admissions can be scheduled seven (7) days a week. The Camp Recovery Center is committed to treating each person who enters with dignity and respect.Drug and Alcohol Intervention
There is a small window of opportunity once an individual makes a commitment to treatment for chemical dependency. It is crucial to act upon this immediately. To place an individual or loved one in treatment as rapidly and smoothly as possible, guidance is available for both the addict or alcoholic and his or her family. At times, an addict or alcoholic loved one is not ready or willing to take this step entirely on their own, in which case a professional "interventionist" can be of assistance. An interventionist is someone who specializes in confronting the substance abuser in a loving and supportive setting with the support of family and friends to guide them into getting help for their addiction. For some, the problem has escalated to a point that every area of life is affected. Many people feel they should be able to handle the problem on their own despite tremendous consequences to themselves and their loved ones. The Camp Recovery Center can offer suggestions, encouragement and support on approaching the individual or seeking professional intervention services. The Camp Recovery Center has excellent resources that are available for those who have questions.Treatment Planning
Admission to a treatment program is the beginning of a new and better life. A solid recovery plan is essential for a new way of living free from drugs and alcohol, allowing an individual to achieve their full potential without the complications of chemical dependency. The Camp Recovery Centers specialize in providing a comprehensive continuum of care through thorough and experienced drug and alcohol treatment planning to provide an individual with the best possible plan for recovery.
